Psalm 8:5 “You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.”
Happy Valentine's Day! This holiday tends to provoke a range of emotions. Some people eagerly anticipate this holiday starting on February 1, while others roll their eyes at all the cheese. However it is you feel about this day, I firmly believe the world is a better place with conversation hearts (see below for reference)
As a Christian, I believe that Valentine’s Day provides a unique opportunity. Regardless of religious belief, everyone is generally on board to celebrate a day centered around love. 1 John 4:7 says “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” So today, as the world around you celebrates love, we can remember that:
-God is the author of love. Despite much of the world failing to acknowledge this truth, His creation of love is so palpable and strong that the world cannot help but be drawn to it. (see Romans 1:20).
-His love for His creation (you and me) is so strong that we should honor others in the way that He honors and loves us.
It is fitting that the verse for our devotion this week coincides with Valentine's Day. The psalmist refers to mankind in verse 5 when he writes, “You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.”
I did not tier this by age because I think these devo questions are applicable for all ages…
How does God view the people He has made?
If God sees humans in this way, how should we treat others?
Pray for eyes to see those difficult people in your life through the lens of love that Christ has for us.
Happy Valentines!
